Ah! To be 21 again! I had just graduated and the world was at my feet. Or, so it seemed!
I graduated in computer science and had just secured a decent job in a small startup right out of college. I was starry eyed and eager to learn and that I did.
But, what specifically would I advice myself if I could with the knowledge I have today?
Breathe - Spend some time to relax, take a step back and think.
Read more books (especially on soft-skills like leadership and time management)
Computer Science fundamentals matters!
Work trumps salary.
Family trumps work.
Mentors help!
Do not get into a comfort zone!
Network, network, network.
Negotiate a better salary/perks when you join (not after!).
Communicate better (verbal and written).
I have followed many of the above and some I have not. That is how I have learnt over the years. What about you? What would you recommend your 21 old self or if you are ~21 today what would you do?
